"When the last living thing

has died on account of us,

how poetical it would be

if Earth could say,

in a voice floating up

perhaps

from the floor

of the Grand Canyon,

“It is done.”

People did not like it here."

-- Kurt Vonnegut (1923-2007)

Getting Chemicals out of our Lives

Thousands of substances that are added to products many of us use every day are carcinogenic and harmful. This section of our site will concentrate on how to get rid of some of those harmful substances, and start living with less pollution in our homes.

150 years ago very few products contained artificial dyes or preservatives. Harsh detergents, ammonias, phosphates, and other common modern cleaning substances weren't used in the home. Now, they put this stuff in shampoos and soaps, in  household cleaning products, in hair care products, in skin care products, in almost everything the modern American resident comes into contact with every day. Worse, we have no clue what effect combining these many polysyllabic ingredients may do to our bodies and our environment.

Also, the medications many of us are told we need to take every day are making their way into our water supplies and having untold reactions on our wildlife. Fish have been tested and found to contain diverse substances such as prozac and blood pressure medication, chemicals that are normally not screened out when human waste goes through the water treatment plant.

This section will explore natural substances that can be used that are green and clean and can replace many of the harmful and polluting substances we've been living with.
